How to Organize Your Child’s Workspace
One of my guiding principles is that a clear space equals a clear mind. As most of our little ones are doing their schoolwork at home these days, I thought it would be great to share some tips and products to keep their desks and workspaces in tip-top shape. Together with The Container Store, I was able to completely create a beautifully functional workspace for my girls.
First, if horizontal real estate is limited, build up! Using vertical wall space and purposeful organizers to keep your child’s home workspace clean and clear. For my kids, I have placed acrylic shelves on the wall to keep books and supplies handy without cluttering up their desk. Acrylic organizers are great because visually they don’t clash with any design and they make it easy to see what is stored in them. I also like to buy smaller ones to keep pencils, crayons, and other essentials in them.
On the desk itself, workbooks, notebooks, and tablets need a home as well. Work with your kids to label and designate a spot for their essentials so they feel a sense of ownership over the space. I use the Landscape Acrylic Paper Drawer to create the perfect station for all these things. Let’s devote more braincells to learning algebra rather than keeping the desk clean! Now that you have a clear space, you need to organize your time to do all that great work. The Wit & Delight Desktop Calendar Notepad is not only gorgeous, but also a great way to keep daily to-do lists and assignment due dates. Pair it with a Poppin Sticky Memo Ball to capture quick ideas and deadlines. I was able to tie this all together with a variety of other desk accessories (pens, tape dispenser, stapler) that look great and are durable for kids.
As we all juggle the challenges and stresses of homeschooling (appreciating all the work that teachers do more than ever!), take some time to ensure that the space your kids are learning in is helping them do their best. Clear off those desks, give everything a home, and involve your children in the process of keeping it clean. Even as the world goes back to normal, a well-organized desk will help your little learners more effectively do their homework and focus on the material rather than a messy space.
