How to Thoughtfully Gift Wrap
You don’t need a red and white outfit, reindeer, and an army of elves to tackle the holiday gift giving season and retain your sanity. A well-organized wrapping station and plan will not only help you keep track of your supplies, but also it will keep the holiday cheer from overtaking your whole house. In partnership with The Container Store, here is how I use this White Elfa Mesh Gift Wrap Cart to conquer a cheery, but also stressful time of year.
First off, you are going to need supplies. I like to choose a theme and color palette for the year and adhere to it. So, for example, this year I have chosen a Nutcracker theme and the colors silver, gold, and white. Having all your gifts wrapped in the same fashion looks incredible under the tree and makes a great impression when heading out to visit family and friends. I outfitted my wrapping station with Glitter Ombre Snowflake Gift Bags, Medium Nutcracker Gift Bags, and Nutcracker Parade Wrapping Paper from The Container Store.
Next, get to wrapping! While pretty straightforward, here are some of my favorite tips:
If you have an odd-shaped item, place it in a white box first and then wrap it. This will keep your gifts as uniform as possible while not revealing what the gift is. Half of the fun is the surprise.
Hide the tape! Replace regular single-sided tape at the folds of a gift with double sided that you can hide.
Add a ribbon vs. a pre-made bow -- go the extra mile to give gifts a handmade touch.
Attach a tie-on ornament to the gift that matches your holiday style. This really tops off a beautiful presentation and is really easy to pull off. This year, I’m using the Glitter Nutcracker and Silver Metal Snowflake Tie-Ons from The Container Store to match my holiday theme.
Finally, your wrapping station doesn’t need to collect dust waiting for the next holiday season. You can repurpose it as a craft center for yourself or kids to enjoy the rest of the year. Its great to have a mobile desk with tons of drawers to keep construction paper, tape, pens, and other creative materials. Or you can keep it as a wrapping station all year and keep spreading the joy!
